The Hebrews were to completely drive out or destroy their enemies. But they did not. Soon they began marrying the native people and worshiping their gods, turning their backs on the one true God. Almost immediately they found themselves being attacked and defeated by neighboring peoples. In recovery, we understand this principle. We dare not take even one drink, one “hit”, or one cigarette. It is just too easy to slip back into old patterns.
