The Newcomers Gratitude
The wars, when we fight
Cannot be won
But they will not be lost
If His will is done.
Serenity and Acceptance
These are the keys
Humility and Gratitude
Will help set me free.
I am an alcoholic
This I know,
"Easy does it," they say
"Let yourself grow."
"I have not patience,"
I exclaim with a sigh,
"Give it time," says the old-timer
"Neither did I."
"Don't drink, go to meetings
It's what you must do,
Ask God for help
He'll come through for you."
I'm lonely, I'm scared
I'm lost and confused
Over the years
I've been used and abused.
I know that you're lying
You can't feel what you say,
But God! I'd give anything
To feel that way.
"Keep coming back," you say,
"Recovery's in sight
It works," you say.
I retort, "Ya right."
But the light's getting brighter
Some things have changed,
Two months clean and sober,
I'm not quite as deranged.
In these rooms, at these tables,
I see what I'm after.
Acceptance, Love and Hope,
But most of all Laughter.
I'm happier now
A little more free.
I'm so very grateful
You did this for me.
So I'll see you tomorrow,
Same time, same place,
I hope you'll be here
I like seeing your face.
So if you feel like drinking
Your life's out of whack,
Just remember: It Works
And Keep Coming Back.
